An ordinary week

Hoping to join Amy and her friends for
Five on Friday, if I can come up with five.
So let's have a look at my week.

On Monday youngest daughter sent us a picture of a house
being demolished and said, "guess where this is".
We both looked and decided it was house in Port Chalmers
so just ignored it really. But no, it was a house on our main
road so we went down to have a look.

It was built in the 1880's and then in the 1950's was converted to a rest home which was run by a christian trust. Unfortunately the trust came to the point in the last year or so where it couldn't
afford to keep it going and so the home closed and the house
and site was sold to a developer :(  There were quite a few little boys watching, school holiday time, and quite a few
bigger boys as well. A sad sight really.

We woke to a nice windy day on Tuesday. Generally Monday is my main wash day but I hadn't done a full wash because the day had started out really cold and bleak. Minus 5C  with a good frost.
But look what I found when I walked out to the letterbox, a tiny daisy trying to open, and another one just in the bottom right
of the picture that hadn't opened quite as much. Talk about hardy.

Anyway Tuesday, I decided to get the towels and sheets
out on the line and they got a good fluff up in the wind.
I don't think we saw the sun at all on Tuesday but it was slightly warmer because of the wind. We woke to snow on
Mt. Maungatua this morning and a cold, biting wind.

On Wednesday our youngest grand daughter turned 18 and
so we took off for the city to look for some hand luggage
for her. We found something in our price range in about
the third shop we went into. I do like these sales :)

And I don't know what was going on but every shop we went into had done a re-lay so nothing was where it had been and we spent a lot of time wandering around looking for departments. Now tomorrow we need to go back in, but to different shops this time, as her young brother turns 10 tomorrow. We thought we'd find something out here, but not what we are wanting.

On Thursday I had a meeting to go to and I was also on 'soup duty'. This meant I made a big crock pot full of vegetable soup and took it down to our venue. After the meeting was over those of us who could, stayed for a soup and bun lunch. Luckily for me I had wrapped a big old towel around the crock as somewhere along the way as I was transporting it, it slopped over the top and made a bit of a mess of the towel, but not the car thankfully. I have to admit I went to bed for granny nap in the afternoon, :) No photo's for Thursday.

No photo's for Friday either and it was quite a mundane day. We had 'not quite gale force' winds in the morning and bitterly cold as there was snow about. A bonus with the wind was that we got a few more feijoas from the tree when we thought they were finished. Youngest daughter came in for a visit and a coffee in the morning and during the afternoon we went out to do a bit of shopping and hopefully find youngest grandson his birthday present. My GKB found a light meter for his camera so I suppose that was something and I came home with a pair of tights but that's not what we were looking for.  And that's my five on Friday.

Two boys on Anzac Day

Saturday was April 25th, Anzac Day.
The day New Zealanders and Australians around the world remember those
of our countrymen and women who have taken part in conflicts around the world since WW1.
This year our youngest grandson was taking part in a small parade
with his cub pack so of course we went out to watch him.
His big brother and a mate came to watch as well.

Jack
Being a boy with ants in his pants he couldn't just stand
on the footpath but had to find a better vantage point.
Good on him.

His father did stop him from getting up on the roof of the bank though,
we didn't want him being hauled off by the local bobby, haha.

Anyway we didn't have to wait too long before we heard the bagpipes
and the little parade came down the street led by the army cadets.

our cubs
There weren't many people there watching
but we discovered later that the main parade was after the church service
when they marched down to the war memorial and laid wreaths.

We didn't wait around for that but later went out to the cemetery
for the service there and see the cubs put poppies on the soldiers graves.

Danny
Looking for a place to put his final poppy.

It was a big day for some of the younger boys
because they had met at the Scout hall at 9:30am
paraded down the street twice, had a church parade,
bussed out to the cemetery and back again.
I went with his mother to pick Danny up just after 1pm.

I hope you're all having a good week,
it's wet and miserable here today,
so I'm inside doing 'inside stuff'.
Have a good week,

A busy day or two

Just a bit of a catch up today.
Last week was fairly busy and
I seem to have lost my oomph.

On Tuesday I had lunch with my little mother
and then took her and a friend to do their shopping.

On Wednesday young Danny was
taking part in the junior school triathlon.

lining up for the cycle leg

We went along to watch.
A beautiful day, very hot and sunny.

Danny was doing the cycling leg.
Twice around the playing fields and his leg was done.

That's him nearest the camera,
heading for the final uphill stretch.
His team came in about 7th
but he wasn't really worried about the placing.

Thursday we did a spur of the moment
round trip to the caravan,
about 7 hours in all, counting coffee breaks.
Another really nice day, just right for travelling,
not too hot or too cold.

We went up to make sure we had battened
down all the hatches, which we hadn't.
We were fortunate we went up when we did as
the following day the weather packed up
and there was snow, rain and hail.

I did some shopping at the sales
while we were up there
and scored a very nice cardigan for just $10.
Very nice, you can't growl at that.

The rest of the week was just normal day to day stuff,
but I have to tell you that Autumn has definitely arrived.
Dead on time.
On March 1st it roared in and has been roaring ever since.

I hope you're all having a good week,
and you haven't lost your oomph!

Girls day in town

Yesterday I had a day in town with my daughters.
And two of my grand-daughters.
Ooh and I'd better not forget youngest grandson, Danny.
After doing some of our shopping
we headed to the gardens for lunch.

Pizza in the park
One of the grand-daughters' beau had
appeared on the scene by this time.
(Isn't it funny how blokes can sense when there's food around).
Although we'd had cold (warm) drinks with lunch
it was such a hot day we decided to head to eldest
grand-daughters' flat for tea and coffee
and a bit of relief from the sun.
She had just finished decorating her Christmas tree.

pretty blue & silver tree
Her first Christmas tree away from home
and she is very proud of it.
As she is of her garden.
She has put a lot of work into it.
Of course I went out and looked around
and encouraged her, she's really keen.

a work in progress

Then after a social half hour or so
it was time to head home again.

Enjoy your week,
don't be too busy,

Diana

Keeping up with Danny

I hope you don't mind if I post mainly photo's today.

Yesterday I spent the morning at the playground with my youngest grandson aka Danny.

He was dropped off at my place and half an hour later we set off.
He was on his scooter and I was on my feet.

disappearing into the distance - the scooter park was in sight

After doing some jumps and whatever else little boys do on scooters it was over to all the play equipment.
Guess who ended up with the scooter.

whoops

better keep my balance

disappearing again

playing is really thirsty work

hanging on

hey look Granma, no feet

time for an ice cream before we head home.

I don't think I can make it Granmaaaa.

sucking on a plum that was hanging over the fence

Danny finally home, pooped.

It was a really hot day so when we arrived home we had lemonade and a snack before getting some lunch.
Then he told me it was my fault for making him go to the playground. Kids!
