These are some of the photo's I took
inside St Paul's Anglican Cathedral in Dunedin
when I went in to see the annual
Flowers of Praise festival earlier in the year.
Looking from just inside the main doors towards the altar.
The great multi coloured cross was made in the 60's or 70's and made of perspex - a controversial decision at the time. It is suspended over the altar by chains.
Looking back to the main doors from the front pews.
The stained glass windows are beautiful with the light coming through them.
Some of the side windows and some of the floral displays.
The cathedral is quite lovely with
the white stone and beautiful stained glass.
Once upon a time you could go up to
the tower on the left hand side (looking at it)
and had a good view of the city,
but I'm not sure if they allow it now.
Just two of the many
floral displays on show,
elegant and fun.

Wow! What an impressive space! I love visiting old cathedrals - when you touch the stones it is like you can feel history vibrating off them.

ReplyDeleteI love that view looking back to the west doors. Beautiful cathedral!
ReplyDeleteA lovely cathedral. I can see why the cross added in the '60s was controversial, sad that modern additions were make to this beautiful place. Tom The Backroads Traveller

ReplyDeleteVery beautiful cathedral. That is interesting about the added cross.
ReplyDeleteFabulous. A fascinating mix of modern and Gothic styles - the east end looks very futuristic - and the stained glass looking back is simply wonderful. The place is full of light.
