Enjoying the ordinary

The last few days have been gorgeous,
lovely and sunny with a bit of a breeze.
Well quite a breeze at times if I am being perfectly honest.
I thoroughly enjoy these mornings,
this is when I get motivated
to get things done around the house.
Every winter I promise myself that
I will do all sorts of indoor chores
so that I don't need to spend my time
indoors when the warmer weather arrives.
We have a long, usually wet and cold winter.
With a correspondingly short, sometimes hot summer.
The winter chore thing doesn't happen very often
although I did get my kitchen cupboards
cleaned and cleared out this year.

So on Monday when the morning was so warm
and sunny I was primed and ready to go.
Monday is wash day and bed change day, and silly
as it may sound, I love pegging washing on the line.
It was all out on the line and back in before lunch.
(folded and put away, as well, if I may skite).
I did my usual big weekly house clean,
singing away to myself, and finished icing a
Christmas cake I had made for a function for yesterday.

I drank coffee and chatted with my GKB
out in the morning sun before the day got too hot
and finished washing down my kitchen walls and cupboard doors.
Then later in the afternoon I spent a little time in the garden.
I had to find shady places to work though
as it was really hot by then. So I really enjoyed
my Monday at home and I hope you can find
enjoyment in the ordinary, everyday things as well.

Wishing you all a great week
and a wonderful Thanksgiving
Weekend to those of you in the U.S.A.

  1. Those ordinary days are ones to cherish. A beautiful iris.

  2. Sounds lovely! I too enjoy doing all the things you have described in an ordinary day. There is nothing like spending the day at home with no where to go.

  3. Diana, what a lovely day to sit in your garden and soak in all the sunshine. Your iris is such a beautiful color! And your cake.... yum!

  4. Ordinary days are the best in my opinion. I love days that I have no errands to run. I need to wash my white cabinets. I have done bits an bobs but they need a thorough cleaning. With the approaching holidays i have quite a long list of chores. While we are celebrating Thanksgiving, I am thankful for good blog friends like you Diana!!

  5. What a precious post! I was so thankful for your sweet visit to my blog and so happy to visit you here at your own lovely blog. I am so happy to "meet" you and hope the Lord blesses you abundantly. Your energy inspired me to do some chores that I have been putting off!!

  6. when we have our over 105 summer days that is when I try to stay inside and clean and usually work on Christmas cards.

    cheers, parsnip

  7. I so enjoyed your post! That's when I'm motivated the best too - on breezy, pleasant days. The others? I just sit and mope and think, "I'll do that tomorrow!"

  8. I really like those days when I seem to accomplish a lot. Your cake looks good enough to eat! Have a blessed day.

  9. Oh yes, I do enjoy the ordinary days. I don't think you're silly at all, I enjoy hanging the clothes out on the line as well. : ) I don't even own a dryer.

  10. I am always blessed by those ordinary seeming days because they often turn out extraordinary in the simplest of ways. I also love hanging laundry on the line, especially the sheets. I do admit to popping them in the dryer for just a few minutes to soften them up but oh, the smell of freshly laundered sheets dried on the line is the best!

  11. I also enjoy the routine of cleaning days. Of course I always wish I had more time to tackle bigger cleaning projects.
Your Christmas cake looks lovely; I especially like the holly container. Enjoy the rest of your week!

  12. You describe the kind of days I like at home. I love to organize, clean, bake and work in the garden. I appreciate your visit and prayers for little Carter. Wishing you a wonderful day.

  13. Beautiful days at home. I love doing the same and getting lots done inside. Thank you for visiting and always your sweet comments. Have a lovely day. xo

  14. Don't you love those days when you can do just what your heart desires!
Nothing that "just has to be done", only those things that bring you joy!

  15. Didn't realize it was so hot where you are. This is our winter in Texas. I love irises. I have several beds. The purple ones always seems to bloom first. We had a nice Thanksgiving and still enjoying our holiday weekend. Your day sounded wonderful. Thanks for sharing.

  16. Hello, sweet friend! How are you? I hope you are well and enjoying the Christmas season as it is now upon us :)

Ah, ordinary days are my favorite and your days at home sound wonderful. Thank you so much for sharing with Roses of Inspiration. I hope you're able to join us again tomorrow. Hugs!
