I've been missing in action for a few days so thought I'd take part in Tuesday 4 (albeit a couple of days late) just to keep in touch :) If you'd like to take part or see what others have to say this is the link https://tuesdaysplace.blogspot.com/
Tuesday 4 is hosted in memory of Toni Taddeo who started it a few years ago and I hope you will join in with us each week. It is a great way to visit new bloggers, make friends and discover new and interesting things about your friends.
The topic for this week's Tuesday 4 meme is Music..
No, but I'd love to have learned the piano when I was younger. And drums, are they a musical instrument? My son is a drummer and he practised in his bedroom. We had to shut him down at a reasonable time in the evenings though so he didn't upset the neighbours. I also spent a term learning the violin at school, last year at Primary I think, I hated it so didn't go back to learn more. I quite like to listen to one being played though which may be why I was attracted to it to start with.
2. Have you taken music lessons? What kind? If not, is there one you might enjoy learning? It is never too late to start. You might be surprised at how accomplished it will make you feel.
A friend paid for me to have about half a dozen piano lessons once upon a time, and I can 'kind of read' music as long as it's not complicated.
3. Is there music in your home as background to your day's activities or do you have music playing in your car, etc.?
No, not any more. I always had the radio going or tapes playing before my hubby retired but he has the telly going all day and the rooms are too close together to have both radio and telly on at the same time unfortunately. Yes the radio is usually on in the car.
If so, what kind of music do you enjoy hearing?
I enjoy music from the 60's, my era. And singers like Shirly Bassey or Bing Crosby are a couple I grew up listening to and so I learned to appreciate a lot of different styles. I also used to enjoy Cleo Laine.
What kind of music do you NOT like?
Heavy metal. Techno.
4. Do you have a favorite composer or genre of music that you like most? Maybe you like several. Please share with us your thoughts?
Some jazz, I enjoy piano and I also enjoy listening to big band music. I pretty much just like music in most forms :)
Take care until next time
Diana
I enjoyed your answers. You reminded me that when I was working and sometimes be very stressed and tired from working long hours, the only way I could relax was to lie down and listen to classical violin music. It put me into a deeply relaxed state even if the music was very fast. I could then fall asleep. Enjoy the rest of your week!
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm glad you joined in with us! It's never too late! My mother took violin lessons when she was younger, and then again after she retired. She never got very good at it, but I remember when I was a child she would dress up like a "hillbilly" and take her violin with her when our whole family went trick or treating on Halloween. She would play screechy music and the people would get a good laugh! Regarding music in the house since being retired...your story sounds EXACTLY like mine! Yep, Hubby watching TV and I can't play music unless I put on headphones, which I don't like to use. Yep! And we rarely turn on the radio in the car because hubby prefers to talk. So there's that. LOL. I sing in the choir at church and that helps fill my music fix.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your post and thank you for joining in!!
I took piano lessons for quite a few years and still enjoy playing.
ReplyDeleteI like lots of different types of music and often have it playing at home. My husband isn't a tv fan, but we do run into trouble with having two different types of music on!
I enjoyed reading your answers to the questions about music, Diana. I love music and I love to sing but I did not take music of any form when in school, other than taking the required music classes.
ReplyDeleteI wish I had stuck with piano lessons. I did play trumpet from 5th grade through my senior year. I loved band. My TV is on in the house, but I have music in the car.
ReplyDeleteI would have like to learn the violin, should have stayed with my piano lessons, and the harp is another instrument I wish I had learnt.
ReplyDeleteYes, piano lessons as a child. Silly me, back then I just wanted to play outside. Didn't realise then where it could lead!
I often have music playing in my home, garden and car.
I have such a vast variety of music I listen to, I never listened to the radio though.
The Human Experience, Beethoven, Darpan, Texas, Rising Appalachia, Samuel J, Nick Barber, Nick Barbachano, Ajeet, East Forest and Liquid Bloom are a few examples of my music taste.
Nice reading your answers. I took bag pipe lessons when we lived in Scotland from an old piper. Never did very good though it was fun.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your answers. I would've loved to learn to play piano
ReplyDeleteI don’t know how to play an instrument. A few years ago I tried to learn how to play a guitar. Unfortunately, not matter what my son tried, my. Hands just couldn’t bend enough to make all the different notes.
ReplyDeleteMy sun started learning piano around seven and loved it. He then taught himself to play the guitar. My daughter started to learn the violin but she really didn’t get into it and dropped it after about six months
I listen to mostly 60s through to 80s especially rock music. I did take piano lessons when I was younger but didn't stick with them.
ReplyDeleteI think we are nearly all agreed on what music we don't like! My mother liked the big band music of the 40s so I grew up hearing it a lot.
ReplyDeleteNice to read your answers.
ReplyDeleteThere are so many genres of music, something for everyone.
I've always wanted to play the piano but never did get to have lessons!
All the best Jan
I agree with the 60s music! That was my era as well.
ReplyDeleteMy younger son was self taught to play the drums. When he was home, he would be drumming on everything - kitchen table, you name it. Thankfully, it was usually his fingers and not the sticks. Now he is drummer for our church's praise and worship and is quite accomplished.
I played violin in high school orchestra. I enjoyed it but at home played guitar which I enjoyed more.
