Its time for this week's Tuesday 4 and if you would like to join in or see what others are sharing here is the link:
Autumn evenings were always special when I was a kid.
The day ended early and the family gathered in the living room where my mother and grandmother watched a little TV and my father sat on the sofa reading and smoking his pipe. My parents enjoyed a cup of coffee and sometimes a snack.
1. Does your life go along in the same way all year or do things change with the seasons?
I spend more time outside when it's warmer though if I'm just sitting with a good book I wear a hat and use sunscreen. When it's cooler I'm only outside when I'm going from one place to another. I'm not a cold weather person.
2. Do you have a favorite meal on the chilly night?
I like soups and stews in the winter. My hubby is not so keen on soup but doesn't complain.
3. Do you have a snack while you watch TV or read?
Only at afternoon tea or supper although we do sometimes have a small packet of chips or a piece of chocolate in the afternoon and in the evening ice cream.
4. Do you have a fireplace in your home?
We do, but it hasn't been used in probably 30 plus years. We had a gas heater for a while and now have a heat pump installed, so much cleaner and we can set it to come on before we get up so the living rooms are nice and warm when we come out.
Keep well,
until next time,
Diana

Great insights as usual! We also have an open fire we never use. It never gave out much heat.
ReplyDeleteSounds lovely! Do you have afternoon tea often...is that a normal every day thing, or something you do just for special times? In the cooler weather I often have a cup of hot tea in the afternoons, but no special food with it unless I happen to have some good cookies or cake or pie available already. We have an electric fireplace that we can turn on without the heat just for the ambience, or we can turn on the heat part if we need to take the chill off the room. But we do have a heat pump/ac that keeps our house comfortable year round. In Florida where we live, the AC is a real necessity, and it sometimes is working in the winter as well as the summer! I hope you are having a lovely week! Bye for now.
ReplyDeleteIt's gotten much cooler here and soup is on the menu for tonight. I make soup most every week in the Fall and winter.
ReplyDeleteWe just installed an electric fireplace and I'm looking forward to having it during the snowy weather.
The temps are finally cooling off here- YAY! I was beginning to feel like I was living in the Sahara. We have a fake fireplace now, but used a pellet stove for twenty something years. I didn't like the clean up, for sure.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds very cosy in the winter months. Stews and soups are top of my list as the weather gets colder.
ReplyDeleteThe cooler winter months can be made more cosy by enjoying soups, stews and casseroles.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
I don't follow any sort of routine, so life doesn't vary that much with the seasons.
ReplyDeleteA good hearty lentil soup is one of my winter favourites.
I don't have a TV, but when I read i often munch on an apple.
I have a fireplace, and love it when it's on, especially on a really rainy day.
My evenings are pretty much the same throughout the year. But during the day I spend more time outside in the summer.
ReplyDeleteWe will start to eat soup tomorrow as is it getting cold. In the evening we watch tv or read but try not to eat snacks.
ReplyDeleteIn summer the problem is that nowadays it is sometimes too hot so I better stay inside in fact I prefer cold weather.
We have a fireplace and it gets used 3/4 of the year probably because temperatures are so up and down except Summer which is up to 32 degrees.
